Production process experience

Yo-Cheng

I benefited a lot from this competition. I didn’t pay much attention to local folk arts in the past. However, because I’ve worked with my classmates to create a webpage introducing Master A-fa, I’ve delved deeper into how the statues were made, instead of just looking at them in the news media.

During this project, the biggest difficulty for me was to type the verbatim transcript! Because I used a tablet to record the interviews, the sound quality was certainly limited. Master A-fa sometimes spoke Taiwanese, which was mixed with professional terms, making it difficult to identify the interview content. I often had to discuss with other people for a long time before I could reach a conclusion. Moreover, I also encountered many difficulties when writing online game programs. After the program was written, each link needed to be tested several times, and the entire game had to be tried hundreds of times. I frequently heard my team members wailing beside me!

Eventually, we successfully completed the production of the game. After the game was tested hundreds of times, we also achieved good results, in which I took pride. I believe that no matter how difficult things will be in the future, as long as I work hard, I will definitely achieve good results.

It took about half a year from the time I was recommended by my mentor to participate in Cyberfair to now when I was ready to submit the project. I learned a lot during these six months, such as searching for information, compiling information, confirming accuracy, etc. These are all processes that cannot be overlooked when doing research.

I also learned how to conduct interviews, including interview etiquette, conversation skills, and work allocation. We also practiced the interviews several times. In addition, I participated in the program filming of Public Television Service, which was also my first time participating in a TV program! In particular, this time, I was able to visit Master A-fa and Chairman Tsai. Hearing Master A-fa selflessly share the skills and knowledge of statue sprucing really opened my eyes. Nevertheless, I also feel sorry for the decline of this traditional craft.

The 6-month webpage production experience has been both bitter and sweet. I would also like to appreciate the teachers for their hard work during this period. No matter what the competition outcome is, I will keep the memories of this period in my heart forever.

When I think back to when I first participated in Cyberfair, my team members and I were not familiar with each other. Fortunately, the teachers kept encouraging us so that we were not afraid. For the first interview, we invited the school principal to practice character interview. Everyone was very clumsy, and no one dared to ask questions, which led to a very embarrassing situation. For the second interview, we practiced interviewing the academic affairs director. Although it was a little better than the first interview, it was still not good enough. Therefore, we asked the brilliant Ms. Mei-Chun Chen for advice. She taught us how to interview people and introduce them. She also knew the history of Nanyao Template by heart. After listening to her explanation, it was really a rewarding experience!

After that, we were very lucky to participate in the filming of the TV program Amazing Taiwanese Kids. The thought of being on TV made us nervous. Fortunately, the host Miss Ally kept cheering us up that day, which made us feel more relieved, and the filming of the program was successfully completed.

Later, we interviewed Master A-fa many times. Originally, I didn’t know anything about the production of statues. However, through Cyberfair, while searching for information and classifying it one by one, I gradually realized: If there were no masters like Master A-fa who quietly passed down the craftsmanship, would the precious craftsmanship and technology have declined? I sincerely appreciate them for their persistence so that traditional craftsmanship can be passed down.

When I first joined the Cyberfair team, I always felt that there was so much stuff that I didn’t know where to start. I still remember the first time when we practiced interviewing the school principal, everyone was inexperienced, and only one person asked questions from beginning to end. The whole process was extremely embarrassing. After the guidance from the principal, director, and teachers, we were finally able to interview Master A-fa smoothly and successfully. Later, after getting more familiar with Master A-fa, our curiosity was aroused, and we asked all kinds of questions!

I was responsible for photography and video post-production in the team, and the first draft I completed was full of errors. The teacher told me that it was necessary to draft the whole plan and the videos and photos I use must be taken by myself. I spent a lot of time modifying the content of the video, and my video finally became as professional as a museum introduction video. Hopefully, our efforts can achieve good results in the competition!

I found it particularly interesting to participate in the filming of the program [Amazing Taiwanese Kids] owing to the participation in Cyberfair. I also learned a lot during interview practices, such as: narration recording, photography, verbatim transcript typing, etc.

During the interview, I was in charge of filming to record every word Master A-fa said. During the post-production of the film, I also experienced the hard work and fun of dubbing. Even though the Internet is not my interest, owing to the participation in Cyberfair, I had the opportunity to use many apps that I had never used before and enjoyed different experiences. Although my contribution was relatively limited due to time constraints, I still participated in this project seriously.

At first, I participated in the Cyberfair with the mentality that it would be fine to give it a try. Unexpectedly, I learned a lot by accident during the participation. From designing interview outlines, typing articles, designing games, editing videos to creating the website, I discovered that it is never easy to preserve traditional crafts. It takes a lot of time, money, and energy to preserve traditional crafts, but the final result may not be necessarily successful.

I think it is the most difficult to convert the interview content into a web article. It not only needs to condense the key points but also integrate it into an article. Not only should we condense the key points of the interview, but we should also integrate it into an article. Moreover, we also had to classify the interview articles. If we found that the interview content was not complete or fluent enough, we had to continue to revise it until it was perfect. Furthermore, the typed article might be too short, so we had to formulate questions before the next interview and try to figure out the direction and content we wanted to write.

During this process, I was very grateful to my teachers, team members, and parents for their encouragement, which made me able to persevere and continue to work hard. No matter what the competition result will be, the process was very satisfying!

During the first interview practice, we interviewed the school principal. This was the first time I asked such a formal question in front of others. Therefore, after entering the school principal’s office, I did not dare to speak at all, and my body was extremely stiff. After this practice experience, in order to be able to speak well and ask questions in front of Master A-fa, I often practice asking questions to the doll before going to bed. During the interview, I finally succeeded in asking the questions I wanted to ask, although my voice was a little small.

After the interview, we needed to gradually create the elements needed for the website. I was responsible for creating a mini game. Upon completion of mechanism of the game, the teachers gave me a lot of advice. Although the game was finally completed after going through various twists and turns, a team member always caught various errors during testing. Therefore, this team member has since been given the title “scratch error master.”

I learned a lot from this project, such as sculpture skills and computer information technology. I went from not being good at anything to being a bit more knowledgeable now. Although the process was a bit hard, it was very rewarding. If I must make a suggestion, I only have one suggestion. I hope that the lunch ordered during the winter vacation when we went to school to make the website would not have offal, which tasted weird.

Yu-Lun

When I started participating in the Cyberfair, I had no idea what it was and thought it would be very difficult. But not long after, I discovered that it was not as difficult as I thought. Not only did I learn a lot in the process, but I was also very happy. The project started with recording the program Amazing Taiwanese Kids, and later we interviewed Master A-fa again. Although it was difficult to sort out the data during the project, it was not boring at all. Also, because I looked up the required information, I learned more.

Ting-En

I learned a lot from this Cyberfair project. From being clueless at the beginning to being constructive now, my dedication and hard work in the process were obvious. In this small team, I got to know more classmates. Through getting along with each other, I discovered their strengths and assigned them suitable jobs. In addition, we provided each other with suggestions, showed completed project to each other, incorporated more people’s creativity, and made the theme more diverse. Every improvement made the team members more harmonious, and we solved problems together. Unlike the conflicts at the beginning, the team members have grown significantly during the project.

Cyberfair is a very important project which requires the interviews with various people. During the interviews, I liked the school principal’s words the most: “When participating in the Cyberfair, you should focus on the process, not the results.” Many people have told me this sentence, but I couldn’t understand it at the time. However, in this small team, I could completely understand the meaning of this sentence. I am grateful to everyone involved in the Cyberfair for helping us, teaching us, and encouraging us. It was my pleasure to contribute to this team.
