Commitment to Inheritance and Promotion

Two years ago, Master A-fa took over as the chairman of the Luban Association hosted by Chaoyang Lukang Association. The exhibition of Luban Association brings together traditional craftsmen from all over Taiwan every year. During the Dragon Boat Festival, 108 local craftsmen, including national treasures, craftsmanship preservers, craft homes in Taiwan, and these old masters and their outstanding apprentice, hold a joint exhibition.


Master A-fa said, “I am not the only one who assists in promoting such a grand Taiwanese crafts exhibition. We are very willing to take a part in helping to promote it.” The Luban Association has been held for 27 years. During the two years when Master A-fa served as the chairman, he also used the power of online media to strive to expand the visibility of Taiwan’s traditional crafts. In the early days of this exhibition, the area of ​​invited craftsmen might have been limited to the Lukang, but now it often invites well-known craftsmen from all over Taiwan to participate in the exhibition. For example, Shan-mei Pan, a famous indigenous bamboo and rattan weaver, and Feng-ying Chang, a national treasure weaver, have all participated in this exhibition. Master A-fa firmly believes that the purpose of inviting well-known craftsmen from all over Taiwan to participate in the exhibition is not only to promote the importance of the beauty of traditional crafts, but also to expand the horizons of traditional crafts. In Taiwan, craftsmanship is not only limited to the Hokkien ethnic groups, but also indigenous peoples and other ethnic groups. Only when the various ethnic groups growing up on this land can learn and appreciate each other and grow and improve together, can the sustainable development of traditional crafts be promoted.
