Erhu, known as Huqin or Xiqin in ancient times, was renamed Erhu during the Republic of China. It is a stringed instrument. Erhu is composed of two strings. The modern Erhu is tuned in pure fifths and is a mid-range and high- range instrument among the huqin. Nowadays, various places have independently developed bowedstring instruments of different shapes according to the required conditions, such as Gaohu, Jinghu, Banhu, Erxian, and trumpet string. In order to meet the needs of symphonicization of Chinese music, Zhonghu and other instruments were also invented based onthe format of Erhu. |
