The main production area of Erhu is in China, with Shanghai, Beijing and Suzhou being the most frequent manufacturing sites. The Erhu produced in different places has different timbres.Traditionally, the Erhu produced in Shanghai has a softer timbre; the erhu produced in Beijing has a louder timbre; and the Erhu produced in Suzhou has a softer timbre that combines the characteristics of both Shanghai and Beijing. The history of Erhu began in the Tang Dynasty and Erhu has a history of more than a thousand years.(Note 1) |
